I've gone mobile! Have you?
Remember people don't like to scroll down too far and it is less annoying to just click away from a loading screen, than to wait on it.
Have you created a mobile website? Has it brought in any clients?
Smartphones are so integrated into our lives and how we find services that not having a mobile version of my freelance writing website was bordering on bad business. I remedied that lapse the other night in about 20 minutes, while waiting on the kitchen paint to dry. If just one client discovers me on their cell phone then that will be time well spent.
Tips for writers considering going mobile:
- If you don't know how to build a mobile website from scratch, avoid headaches and use a site builder.
- Landing page should be a short menu of options.
- Be accessible: leave multiple avenues for contact.
- Create a short (a few paragraphs) 'About Me' page to let clients get to know you.
- Don't try to fit in all your writing samples; have a paired down version of your best content.
- Match or relate the design (colors, etc) and feel of your mobile site to your main website for cohesive branding.
- Keep in mind the site will be viewed on a tiny screen, so don't overwhelm with long pages to scroll through or too many graphics that may take forever to load.
Remember people don't like to scroll down too far and it is less annoying to just click away from a loading screen, than to wait on it.
One more thing to add to my 'to do' list! *Karen
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, Karen! Use a website builder and you basically just have to fill in the blanks and choose colors. This will be an easy task to cross off!
