Getting Over 'Gilmore Girls'

Where is Rory Gilmore now? CNN? The New York Times? Shacked up writing with Jess?
The series ended in 2007 and I still haven't gotten over not knowing how Rory Gilmore's journalism career turned out. That's right--her career. It's what drew me to the show from the beginning and kept me hanging on for seven seasons. Alexis Bledel's book-loving, Havard dreaming, brainiac Rory really resonated with me.

Sure, Lauren Graham was beyond fabulous, Stars Hollow a hoot and the rapid fire pop culture references wildly entertaining. I would have tuned in just for that, but not obsessively. No, it was definitely the writer in me connecting with Rory's own journalistic aspirations that bred the need to see her succeed.

So the series left me hanging. Rory said "no" to Logan's proposal (Yay!) to forge ahead with her career and I was left with an ending that was the beginning of what I tuned in for. Every once in awhile, talk of a "Gilmore Girls" movie pops up and gets me all hopeful. Finally, some answers! But then it dies down and I'm still left wondering.

What television series are you still hung up on?

  1. I am still hung up on Frasier. I love that show and still watch the syndicated reruns even though I've seen them a million times. I also really miss Designing Women. I just bought the first three seasons on DVD so I'm looking forward to sitting on the couch and getting a little nostalgic. Chappelle's Show is another one that I miss and still watch the reruns of.

  2. I think Rory and Logan were great for each other. I was crushed when she turned him down- but I knew she would.

  5. I never watched Gilmore Girls myself, but my wife is currently working her way through its final season.

Nor am I truly hung up on any TV series, but I do wish one show in particular got a Serenity-style treatment and got to tie up all the loose ends in a movie or double episode: Carnivale. They had set it up so well for a third season, and then, it didn't get picked for a third season. Boo.

  6. I still haven't seen the last few episodes of Gilmore Girls. The dish went out, and I refuse to skip episodes or watch them out of order. Eventually, the momentum was gone, and I lost interest.

Whenever I get into a show that gets pulled from the air suddenly or gets cancelled after an incredible cliffhanger of a season finale, it really bothers me. The networks don't give them a fair chance, and we never find out what was planned for future episodes.
